Death Valley / Owens Valley
From the lowest point in North America, Badwater, to views of the highest peak in the contiguous United States, Mount Whitney, Death Valley and the Owens Valley offer a vast range of material for the creative photographer. From the Racetrack with its mysteriously moving stones, or the classic overview from Zabriskie Point to the ever changing Mesquite Flat sand dunes, Death Valley is a place of wonder. The Owens Valley has the famous Alabama Hills with its amazing rock formations, arches and movie history. Sierra Wave clouds are a regular occurence and there are also petroglyphs to discover. You can even visit the remnants of the World War II internment camp at Manzanar. These areas are also rich with photographic history as all the California masters from Adams to Weston worked here and it's fun to travel those same roads.
